Why are people supposed to exercise? To beat stress. Worked for me so far along with some satisfying nookie. Exercise is fun and relaxing.....so is sex ! If you can get it! Nymphomaniacs are rare.

I was having blood pressure problems last year. A stressful email at work would see the systolic reading jump by 20 to 25 points within seconds. So I definitely think stress is bad when it is constant, which mine had been with work. I’d love a lower stress job. Spending 40 or more hours at work constitutes a good amount of ones life, not to mention the outside time thinking about work. We all need to make money to pay the bills and things, but if it's not enjoyable and actually causes ill health then it's a problem. It can be fixed by getting another job, or by meds. Talking to a doctor may be an option, but they will probably try to put you on meds unless they are natural remedy types. I know many people who have been on meds for over 30 years. I'm not a doctor and never had high BP, but did try something that I still follow that helps me and it's eating a banana with a glass of water twice daily; first thing in the morning (actually second as I take my arginine 1st, then 1 hour later the banana and water). and again around 8:30pm before bed. Prior to doing this, my BP was almost always the same at around 120/72. After doing this it went down to around 112/68 and at higher bodyweight (220's) and older. Something else. Maybe you don't need a career change, just an adjustment in perceiving what's getting to you at work. An old military guy told me the best way to solve a problem is to do this; before bed write it out on paper - the more detailed the better. Read it over to be sure it's accurate. Now, think of it as if it's a problem a relative or close friend has. Now write out the solution on the back in detail like you'd give to this person. Go to sleep. Read the solution the next morning first thing. There's your answer. It's helped me many times as long as your are completely honest and sincere in your writing of both parts. I only used this a few times in my life, but it was worth it. Best of luck!

About 20 years ago I met a Jewish guy from Brooklyn "Howie" at some bar on a beach and we both started talking as NY guys....over several beers it came out that he lived in this area and I asked how he ended up here. His story was that his father and uncle, old fashioned Jewish businessmen, owned a business and the sons were expected to go into "the business", which after finishing college both he and his brother did that following the old man's wishes. The brother settled into the routine....miserable, but not going to change anything. Howie on the other hand was miserable, married to a selfish, spoiled woman and had two selfish, spoiled kids. He was stressed out, and had the resulting health problems but was still allowing everyone to dictate his life...and he hated it When the kids went off to college, he divorced his wife and left everything to her and the kids, quit the business and moved down here....he stayed in touch with his kids who were still the same as the wife, and his son was working in "the business"....and miserable too Howie lived in a small apartment on the beach and drove a cab and said that for the first time in his adult life he was happy, healthy and at peace, and that he would not trade that for anything. Talking to the guy and looking at him, it was totally believable. He looked fit, healthy and sounded like a genuinely happy guy It's not all about a job, money or all that....we get X number of heartbeats, why use them up being miserable ?

Yes, stress is a killer for sure. It can be controlled, but it's tough. When I lived in Spain I noticed that generally speaking the Spanish get far less stressed than British people. Also the type of British people that settle in Spain are those that don't get stressed so easily. I never met many Spanish people in the UK. I would guess it's because they find it too stressful and I don't blame them. Spanish people have far less heart problems than British people. I put it down to leading a less stressful life. It's certainly not less meat consumption because Spanish people eat more meat than Brits. This isn't my observation as I don't work in the medical or meat industries. It is facts that I have looked up. It's very easy for people to say "Don't let things bother you so much" but as you know, it's not easy. Since I got to Australia I've only worked for other people. I'm not interested in working for myself now and don't want to be in charge of any other guys even though I've been offered it. I just want to go to work, do the job and forget about it after knock off time. I'm not earning as much as I could but I feel all the better for it, m8.

Maybe you should look into one You used to come on here always laughing and joking and loved surfing and being a ladies man Now, it seems like the stress has taken the fun out of your life Maybe it's time for a change I worked in the firehouse with a guy who had been a successful Wall St stockbroker He wasn't happy in his stressful job, despite the salary and perks and became a fireman....said it was the best move of his life He loved the job and was a good fireman and a happy man, a pleasure to work with From my own experience, I was an oil refinery roustabout in CA but had an interest in becoming a FDNY fireman, I applied to take the test but the test date was on a day when I was scheduled to work and I couldn't get the time off....there was no way I was going to be able to take the test so I resigned and my wife and I sold off most of our furnishings and packed what we could into our car and drove back to NYC where I took and did well on the written test and eventually got on the job It was a real gamble and we really struggled until I got on the fire department....but it was worth it I loved my job, it never felt like work and I always looked forward to going into work at the firehouse Something to think about Life is short, do what's best for you and be happy All the best I think you’re right. It may be time to make a move. Covid makes things a pain at the moment as it makes things so uncertain with lockdowns. It’d be nice to look forward to work each day. Look forward to it? That's a tall order. Not dreading it is a bonus, Whiff m8.

Look forward to it? That's a tall order. Not dreading it is a bonus, Whiff m8. I feel very blessed. When I was a young working stiff, doing hard physical labor all day, I loved going to work. I actually jumped (yes I did) out of bed in the morning to do my exercises, make breakfast and go, go, go! Later though, someone told me I should get out of that because it was not sustainable. So, I went back to school at nights, became an executive, fat and stressed out. Now, when I work, it's physical labor again, but it's my choice and no need to push anything, especially recreational exercise.

Same with me, don't want employees and just want to work and be done with it and live life. It does feel good and we all should be allowed that. When I worked as an underwriter at insurance companies, I was stuck in an office or cubicle for up to 65 hours a week (not to mention the work I took home) on SALARY. We were told we could not take vacation (I lost vacation time yearly) from October 1st through January 4th as this was our busiest time of year for new and renewal business. Missed my first child's birth (I still regret this horribly) because HAD to be at home office for a meeting. That's a story in itself and was the most stressful day of my life so far. I'm an independent contractor (technically, a small business owner) and want to stay that way. Don't want the drama of employees. The more I work the more I make and there are tax write offs that help. Money about the same, but no benefits (wife's work takes care of that). Stress is there in the form of other reps who quit on no notice and they try and jam me with the short-fuse work deadlines, but more controllable. I still do work til' 1 am (not at all often), but it's because I did personal things earlier in the day.
