Not exactly. What I'm doing is a movement more like the one I do at first push on a wheelbarrow when rocking it to get it moving, except that I start it over on each swing. Like a regular KB swing, I try to let the rocking motion of my body make the weights move by dipping (shallow squating) my body, down and forward and then up and back. I'm not trying to swing to any height. Not as exaggerated or ballistic as that lady is doing, the weights only go as far forward and back as the motion of my body propels them - usually about a foot or two out in front, depending on the weight. It's more a gentle than what she is doing. The combination of lowing into a partial squat while the weights swing forward adds to the load by centrifugal force at the bottom of the swing and the motion of my body keeps things moving like when swinging on a playground swingset.

I know some guys don't like this guy, probably more so when he talks. If You skip to 3:12 in the video he shows 7 variations. The kettlebell skier swing with the KBs on the outside of the legs works the quads more.

OK, yeah, the skier thing is, again, similar except that he's doing ballistic, snapping, plyometric downhill x'ing and I'm doing rhythmic, leisurely, untimed, uncounted, cross country x'ing across level pack. The heaviest I use is 30# each, but I enjoy using 15# each most of the time and swinging for a song or two - so maybe 3 or 4 minutes? One of my few exercises that involve repetitions, just have no idea how many since I go for as long as I enjoy it.

Michael, I agree with your observations. I never did anything this swing challenging before. Should have done 5 swing rounds or allowed more recovery time between rounds. I’ve always been a grunter. I believe you either are or are not. Some people open their mouth when exerting themselves, like Pocket Hercules, an Olympic weightlifting legend. Mag, I’ll get to work. Pocket Hercules died from alcoholism. Cirrhosis of the liver.

That's a good movement Mr.P. There are two styles of swings that I know of. What he's doing is hard style and there's a softer style like You're taking about. I believe before Steve Maxwell stop using KBs he used the soft style. If there was an in between style that would be what I do. I squeeze the gluteus at the top but I don't like to snap the hips hard like that.

And your posterior chain, grab a KB and swing it a challenging number of reps. As I begin using my 53 lb KB, I have respect for the mental fortitude, as well as the conditioning it took for you to do that many reps in short order. Well done!

Thank you MBS, I try. Always compare yourself to the best you can be with consistent and progressive effort, AND NOBODY ELSE. Be safe.
