Henry, just be careful. I had a couple of the Lifeline chest expanders snap off and slapped the heck out of me. You can do a lot of exercises with them.

Not having the gym available I finally decided to get a chest expander so bought a cheap Lifeline expander from Amazon which came a day later. I had thought about the Hook but the $ exchange right now isn't good and I usually avoid stuff from the US coz of long waiting or just never arrive experience.
I had had a hard plastic handle set but was worried they would crack and break, so Lifeline were cheap and giving them a try. the part where the strands attache can also be gripped instead of the loop handle. I could buy a steel spring set with wooden revolving handles but my last York set the springs overstretched. Terry's expanders use to have string in the core that would limit the stretch. Wow! Just kick Bruce in the groin on his own forum.

The cable quality is variable. Some report good service from their cables, others like me had all three break without warning inside six months of use. Two broke at the handle attachments, the last one broke right in the centre. Got slapped every time. Their soft handles are rubbish.

I bought The Hook a couple of weeks ago. Bruce was very prompt - the post office here in Blightly complete crap. The Hook is working well for me. I should have got one ages ago.

I'm sure Henry's Lifeline Chest Expander Forum will be forthcoming shortly. Then we can all post threads there endorsing The Hook and ignore the forum from then on.

..... wasn't a personal on Bruce, you lot just like to pick something out and go way off target. I just wanted something quick, who knows if when the gym re-opens and I go back to weights and pulley's. I've had expanders's before and never really used them much. I didn't want springs coz of my long reach and likely over stretch them, or I had a rubber strand set with hard plastic handles that didn't seem very strong, Lifeline was #1 on the top #10 list and would get it the next day. I wonder how much they had to pay for that rating? I echo the posts about poor Lifeline quality. One of the reasons I bought The Hook years ago was due to Lifeline bands breaking on bands over their 50# rating within a couple months of use, in conditions that were completely out of the weather and sunlight. Shit product. When I took pictures and sent them to Lifeline along with my complaint, they wanted me to send the damaged bands and told me that they would evaluate them, and THEN they would decide if they would do anything about it. Shipping was my nickel and, from my perception, the conversation with them was structured to discourage me from pursuing the matter. Their customer service ...... isn't. That's when I posted about this on the old Zen forum. Fuck Lifeline. The pictures are probably still on the old forum somewhere. The Sierra quality and service is stellar, professional and well worth the extra money. In hindsight, now, if I couldn't afford to pay a little extra to receive a superior product with superior quality and superior customer service from Bruce, I'd go to a bicycle shop and pick up some free inner tubes.

I think that when a number of people look at bands, they immediately think "chest expander". So they get a chest expander, and that's just what they get. Very limited in its uses. I'm sure a number of people look at THE HOOK, they think "chest expander" and fail to see the dynamics of what is actually going on with The Hook. It is essentially the fastest loading and most versatile pair of dumbbells you'll ever wrap your hands around, with no limit on the amount of resistance you want to use. With The Hook, you can not only duplicate every weight lifting exercise, but a lot of machine exercises, as well. As everyone who has ever dealt with me knows, I will replace equipment in a heart beat. No "investigations" or proof needed. And The Hook can also be used as a chest expander. About a third of my orders are from overseas, and once anyone has placed an order, I make sure they receive that order. Sometimes I've had to go through hoops to ensure this, but everyone from a foreign country who has ever ordered from me has received their order. Unlike a lot of companies, with which you pay an arm and a leg for overseas mailing, sometimes paying even more than the product, itself, I send my overseas packages via First Class, the least expensive means available. I have no control over what Customs charges in foreign countries. I hope you like your Lifeline Expander, Henry, and thank you for featuring a direct competitor's product on my forum.

I hope you like your Lifeline Expander, Henry, and thank you for featuring a direct competitor's product on my forum. Well actually, that's a very good thing. It directly highlights the superior features of the "home" product, and provides the opportunity for present/past users' endorsements and criticisms. Henri explained right at the start why he ended up getting the Lifeline. He had obviously thought of the Hook first but had a good reason in his mind not to (immediately) buy it. On the Strandpulling forum some years ago, I spent 18 months with Lifeline trying to help them and their customers improve their product, their service, and their confusing method of calculating their cable poundages, which while logical after finding out how they went about it, was unlike any other chest expander. There was confusion and probably still is as to how much trainers are actually hauling out full stretch by way of lbs stress. That resulted in constant over-estimating various trainers' records by a factor of around 100%, the cables I measured at my stretch just over 50% of the advertised poundage. Their stated method of measuring their cables was variable, depending on who you talked to, in other words I got three different answers from two "managers" and the receptionist, who was in fact the only person who understood the meaning of customer service. The others, obviously trying to hold their jobs down in the midst of customer complaints for poor quality of cables, unanswered queries, and when finally answered (if at all) different answers depending on who you got. Their advertised cable poundages were confusing, with admittedly some very strong trainers hauling what they thought was something like over 200lbs on (their) full stretch, according to Lifeline's advertisements, which of course is ridiculous. One glance at the strongest blue cables (for the chest expander length) of 90lbs means that with three cables (their max handle capability) one is hauling out 270lbs, which maybe a gorilla could do, but not a human. Bearing in mind that if you pull out 100lbs to full arm stretch with arms out to the sides, the strain is 100lbs on EACH arm, not divided as it would be if your arms were holding up a barbell, for example. The confusing situation (which still remains around the Net as far as I know) was finally solved by another Strandpulling member and the matter was closed after I sent Lifeline a scathing letter which referred to "ship of fools " etc for their 18 months of confusing answers, variable depending on who you talked to, shitty product complaints, and incompetent "engineers" who would have been challenged at a rubber-band factory, never mind a fitness equipment company. Later I bought The Hook once I had saved up for it, which is not a criticism of Hook price, but rather a matter of exchange rates (Henri as well) plus the bank's high charge for bank cheques because that was the only payment method I could use at the time, and received the product fairly promptly considering the distance between our countries. To cut this long story short(er), the Hook is everything the Lifeline product isn't/wasn't. I wrote a positive review on the Strandpulling forum and Bruce sent me flowers and chocolates with a perfumed card.

Admin, you may as well delete the thread as it makes no sense now that the person who started it is coming down off their high for the time being.

I don't think you can blame someone for buying something else anymore than I would blame someone for drinking in another pub. Got to say though I doubt The HOOK can be beaten, both the handles and the door attachment are terrific.
I've had problems with the handle coating sliding off before but for the door attachment I've found you can avoid this by putting the hook on the way I would consider "upside down"

I don't think you can blame someone for buying something else anymore than I would blame someone for drinking in another pub. A person can buy whatever they want. I just thought the comment about "I usually avoid stuff from the US coz of long waiting or just never arrive experience." when Bruce prides himself on the amount of product he has shipped to countries outside the USA was an irresponsible and discourteous thing to say on the forum maintained by the man who (personally) produces an item in direct competition with LL. I may post a link to some silly exercise item like that Jawsercize thing to possibly get a chuckle out of some people here, but I wouldn't even mention an inferior similar product to The Hook here because it could do nothing but just get the item more exposure when some noob is searching the web to get more info on resistance bands. Henry has virtually the same thread going on AMM2. That or someplace like The Strandpulling Forum is where that belongs IMO.

I've had problems with the handle coating sliding off before ... | Are you talking about the plastic sleeve around the actual hook? If so, you can push it back over the nut by placing the hook and sleeve in scalding hot water for about 30 seconds. This softens the sleeve and heats up the steel, making the sleeve pliable enough to push back into place.
