Happy birthday Muhammad Ali, you were born 74 years ago today. Hope you're enjoying your eternal rest and may perpetual light shine upon your soul. Thanks for the memories.

One of my sisters had a job in professional sports and got to meet and have a business lunch with him and a few other people. He was in declining health at the time, but that didn't stop him from flirting with all the women, and giving my sister a note written in lipstick on a napkin that said "I love you"...

It is so SAD the world could not witness Mohammad Ali's peak performance, as he was banned from boxing in his prime years (25 to 29). Yet not his own best was/is still so much better than anyone else. What a guy!

Probably the greatest of all time. There were others that could punch harder, but not the whole package. Great build too. Not overly muscular a nice upper body and no chunky/block legs that squats and other heavy leg work tends to develop. IMO, the last bodybuilders with anything decent looking as far as legs were concerned were the guys than Vince Gironda trained.

What impressed me was how loose he was and how he could avoid being hit by ducking, dancing out of the way, dodging. Even his punches were relaxed until just a nanosecond before landing, when he could anchor his body as solid as a rock. That required an amazing set of reactions and coordination.

He didn't have the self promotion gift that Ali had. Too bad.

Check out Willie Pep. He smokes Ali IMHO.
