My oldest son took his Olympic plates and his trap bar when he moved out. My youngest son was using the trap bar all the time and I really liked how it felt on my back. I have a chance to get Olympic plates really cheap. We have a way better chance of getting another trap bar before Christmas than the new Isometric program coming out. I was thinking, since I may be getting the Olympic plates I should just get some Olympic dumbbell handles.
Does anyone here have any experience with the Olympic dumbbell handles? If so, What are the pros and cons? Does the length disturb some exercises?

Consider the purchase of adapters( pipes that fit over standard 1" bars which accommodate the 2" Oly plates) . With such adapters you could purchase a standard plate Trap Bar and/ or dumbbell handles while using Oly plates.

For most of the bilateral type exercises that people do with dumbbells, yes the extra length of Olympic dumbbells makes them awkward and can hinder how much you can move and get the real benefit of using dumbbells. However, if all you had were Olympic plates and a trap bar, a single Olympic dumbbell handle would be a very worthwhile addition for unilateral presses. I like Pavel's Power to the People Program that consists of heavy low rep deadlifts and side presses. I think though it can be done more effectively with less coaching with a trap bar and a dumbbell. When you can side press more than 50 lbs. with the dumbbell, you can start thinking about adding a 7 foot Olympic barbell to do the same thing. Just my two cents worth.

And a very good two cents it is!

Thanks Deuce! I think I'm going to stick with my standard dumbbell handles. I am going to get a trap bar because we like it.

The one that I found and that I use is made for standard plates and I have some 50 lb. standard plates that get it up to close to the same height an Olympic trap bar would be with 45 lb. plates. It took a bit of searching to find a used one but I'm glad I did.

That's my plan. I'm just going to be patient and look for a used standard plate trap bar.

I seen one that was rated for 300lbs but in the reviews someone said they had close to 400 lbs on it.

A pair of dumbbells can simulate a Trap Bar deadlift but it's a bit risky(carefully lower them to avoid smashing your feet)
Heavy resistance bands with the HOOK is a safer way to simulate the TB deadlift

There are no manufacturer markings on it so no real way to tell, but I'm quite sure it will handle what I have the capability or desire to lift.

Michael I have them. Cannot really add anything else to Deuce Gunners post. It was thorough and right on money. My favorite exercise is the one arm press or bent over side arm press.

We have a way better chance of getting another trap bar before Christmas than the new Isometric program coming out. You have a greater chance of lighting a fart and having elvis, sasquatch and Jimmy Hoffa appear out of the blast than getting that new ISO Program.
