Been training pretty hard lately, well, harder than usual. I managed to hit one of my goals of next year and that was the one arm barbell snatch with 100lbs for 1 set of 15 reps with each arm. I hit 16 left and 18 right.
Decided I'm just going to maintain that for awhile and start to focus on teaching myself how to Bent Press again. Back in the late 90's I worked with it for a few weeks and managed to do 115lbs left and 130lbs on the right. Right now I'm keeping it fairly easy and working with 95lbs for my top weights. I'm nowhere near as flexible as I used to be but it seems to be coming back. The two assistance exercises I am using are the back press with the hooks and bands and windmill/alternate toe touches. The back press is the perfect assistance exercise to the bent press. I also use the iso strap and hooks to build that push position when the arm is on the lat and you just have to maintain solid control.
I've also found that there isn't hardly anything that hits my side delts like the front chest press superset with the band Y's. Smokes mine.
Lastly, I picked up a Robert Baraban adjustable gripper with the pinch grip attachments and its absolutely outstanding. I'm not personally interested in certifying with a certain gripper, I just want my hands and wrists stronger and this was a fine choice. Just after a little over two weeks of using it I was able to pinch lift a loadable blob replica that I had not been able to lift before. I overloaded it years ago and it basically just sat there ever since. On a whim I just reached down with my left hand of all things and picked it up easily and carried half way across my gym. Shocked for sure. I'll add another tube of BB's to it in a few weeks.
