Well to me it's actually two lifts with lots of variations. This also seems like it could be easily modified to use one or two dumbbells or kettlebells in place of the barbell. It's just another take on a subject that gets constantly discussed, but I think this routine is every bit as good or better than Pavel's Simple and Sinister program. Any thoughts? www.ironmind.com/articles/jim-schmitz-on-the-lifts/If-You-Only-Had-Time-for-One-Lift/

Thanks for sharing. Met and chat with Jim Schmitz a number of times a dozen years ago during my "tour of duty" with the Olympic lifts; a true gentleman. Barbells allow a heavier load but can get a great workout with dumbbells or kettlebells doing complex work like he describes. You're only limited to your imagination and ability to complete with intensity and power. Mix and match the load, reps, rounds and recovery time between rounds and you can spank yourself silly in less than 10 minutes.

I really can't disagree That would work a lot of muscle and not allow one to get too one sided as a workout focused on one of the powerlifts would do.
I think most of us here couldn't do that workout though. We'd INSIST on adding extra shit, no matter what.

The Dragan Lift : high rep(100) curls to shoulder presses with a pair of dumbbells Last I heard of Dragan was his son writing about how his Dad was out of the limelight in their fitness enterprise due to multiple serious joint problems.

Use a single dumbbell to perform a medley of lifts non-stop for 20(?) minutes; switch working arms as necessary . With a medley of carefully chosen lifts you're less likely to get overuse injuries while achieving a decent strength/endurance workout .

I like the idea of this and do similar stuff. But I will add on stuff like corrective exercise. Also, not sure if this is the right word or phrase, I like to work in the other plane of motion. For me, my shoulders thank me if I do a horizontal and vertical push and pull. I don't think Your body was made to just move one way.

Oh! I didn't know that, will have to have a look. He did some crazy stuff that was far beyond what anyone else could do, until I think, his son out performed him.

Who is Dragan? I've never heard of him. (which in itself doesn't mean much)

When I learned of this challenge about 7 years ago, I added it to my training rotation except I used a thicker grip pair of 35-lb. dumbbells at the gym I belonged to. I worked up to 100 non-stop reps timed (that's 50 with each arm) and got it done sub 6 minutes, I believe 5:38, would have to go into old training journals to get exact time. I liked this as a strength endurance cardio closer. Then, I upped it to 40-lb. dumbbells which is obviously harder and eventually lost interest and moved on to other challenges. This was the same time I was doing barbell overhead press work chasing a 1 rep max. The whole experience made me a good overhead press person, in relation to my prior past, that I still enjoy today. Can see how the grind Dragan put himself to with the insane volume he did would cause him to have the problems he apparently is now experiencing. A good lesson for all of us when we get carried away with volume - talking to myself.

It was expressed in this or another thread here that as we age, the minimal stimulus is what we should seek. I came to that conclusion too about a year ago. The problem for me is walking the walk.

Power cleans are violent/explosive and repetitive type exercise using heavy weights? No thanks.

Here’s one of my favorite one lift workouts - video embedded in today’s Pierini Fitness post. Since I’ve been running more, now using KB for more strength work rather than cardiovascular or strength endurance. pierini-fitness.blogspot.com/2019/09/good-way-to-blast-my-shoulders.html?m=1I’m back there this weekend and plan doing the same workout hoping to complete a few more total reps.
